The Community Pool for the Handicapped, in Yuba City, California
The only warm water therapy pool in Northern California,
currently serving the four counties of Butte, Colusa, Sutter and
Yuba.
Butchie's Pool
Built in memory of Larry "Butchie" Montna, a young man with
developmental disability. His tragic death spurred members of
the community to join together to create a lasting legacy. To
honor Butchie's love of swimming, and otters, this specially
designed pool was built for the community to benefit other young
people with disabilities.

Now special education classes with children from ages 3 to 22 use
the pool as part of their activities. Special Olympics does
training in the pool. Parents bring their children with
special needs, and respite providers use the pool programs to
increase the clients' social opportunities.
But the pool program has even blossomed beyond the original
purpose. Now it serves many people in our community who have a
wide variety of health needs from arthritis to stroke
rehabilitation. Butchie Montna's legacy now provides new
health and hope to hundreds of our local people.
